Meet the Founder & Dance Teacher
Sukhi Sangha is a passionate community leader, Bhangra dance instructor, and advocate for cultural connection through movement. She is the founder of Vancouver Island Bhangra and the Founder and President of Rang South Asian Arts and Culture Society, an organization dedicated to celebrating and promoting South Asian arts, culture, and community engagement in Nanaimo and across Vancouver Island.
In 2024, Sukhi received the Honor in Culture Award from the City of Nanaimo for her contributions to the region’s cultural landscape, and in 2025 she was recognized as Nanaimo’s Women of Influence in Arts & Culture.
Born and raised in North Delta, Sukhi has been sharing her love of Bhangra dance for over 20 years. Through Bhangra performances, workshops, and Bhangra fitness classes, she has inspired people of all ages throughout British Columbia and beyond. Her work blends traditional Punjabi folk dance with modern fitness and community celebration, making Bhangra accessible, welcoming, and empowering for everyone.
Since relocating to Nanaimo in 2021, Sukhi has become a leading voice for South Asian arts and Bhangra dance on Vancouver Island. She also serves as a volunteer Board Member with the Crimson Coast Dance Society, supporting multicultural arts programming in Nanaimo. Through her popular Bhangra fitness classes with the City of Nanaimo, she promotes health, joy, and cultural connection through dance.
Sukhi has performed and competed across North America with the Jawani Girls Bhangra Team and was featured as a solo performer on Poland’s Got Talent. Her infectious positivity, deep cultural pride, and commitment to community engagement continue to inspire audiences and students alike.
Through Vancouver Island Bhangra and Rang South Asian Arts and Culture Society, Sukhi is dedicated to building inclusive spaces where people can experience the energy, culture, and joy of Bhangra dance in Nanaimo and across Vancouver Island.
